Key takeaways

  • MCX lists smaller versions of gold, silver and crude oil contracts.
  • A smaller lot means a smaller rupee change for every tick, and a lower margin.
  • Gold Mini moves ₹10 per lot for a ₹1 move; Silver Micro moves just ₹1.
  • Size every trade from the stop-loss backwards, whatever the contract.

01Why smaller MCX contracts matter

Gold, silver and crude oil are the most traded commodities on MCX. Their full-size contracts need large margins, which keeps many traders away. Margin moves roughly with the value of one lot, so a smaller lot means a lower margin and a smaller rupee change for every tick.

That makes it possible to trade these markets with limited capital and still keep a proper stop-loss.
