Quick Answers

How the Charges Are Worked Out

Turnover is price × quantity, whether on the buy side or the sell side. Total turnover is the sum of both.

Brokerage applies on each order: ₹ per order plus a % of turnover, up to a cap if one is set. STT/CTT apply on the buy and the sell, each at its own rate. Exchange charges and SEBI turnover fees apply to the total value traded. Stamp duty applies to the buy side alone.

GST = 18% × (brokerage + exchange charges + SEBI turnover fees). STT/CTT and stamp duty do not enter the GST base.

Frequently Asked Questions

What goes into the total charges?

Brokerage, STT or CTT and exchange charges come first. SEBI turnover fees, stamp duty, GST and DP charges come next. Each has its own field and each can be changed on the page.

What is GST charged on?

GST applies only to the sum of brokerage, exchange charges and SEBI turnover fees. STT/CTT and stamp duty do not attract GST. This is the commonest mistake. Applying it to those as well makes the total charges look larger — and that larger number looks right.

Does stamp duty apply on both sides?

No. Stamp duty applies only on the buy side. On this page its field is even labelled "buy side % only". In the sums it is applied to the buy side alone.

Which price should be entered for options?

The premium. On options each rate applies to the premium amount, not to the contract value. That is, the premium goes into both the buy price and the sell price.

How is the breakeven sell price calculated?

It is the price at which net P&L comes out exactly zero. It cannot be worked out directly as "total charges ÷ shares", because the cost itself rests on the sell price. As the sell price rises, STT, exchange and SEBI charges rise a little too. This page solves that link by repeating it, and then checks that net P&L at that price really is zero.

How current are these rates?

They are as of the date stated above (25 Aug 2026). These rates change from time to time, which is why each number here can be changed. Check them against your own contract note.

Are the numbers I enter sent anywhere?

No. The whole computation happens in your browser. No number goes to any server and nothing is saved anywhere.
