How to Read an Option Chain

An option chain is a table that shows every strike price of a single expiry together. Call (CE) and put (PE) figures sit side by side at each strike.

Open Interest (OI) is the count of contracts currently open at that strike. LTP is the last traded price of that contract. “Chg” is the difference in OI since the previous close.

All these figures are public exchange data and they keep changing through the session. This page shows a few strikes on either side of the ATM strike, not the whole chain. It is not investment advice of any kind.

Frequently Asked Questions

What does PCR mean in an option chain?

PCR (Put-Call Ratio) is put open interest divided by call open interest. In this snapshot the Bank Nifty PCR (OI) is 0.96. It is only a ratio — a count, not a suggestion.

How is Max Pain calculated?

Every strike is treated as a possible expiry price. On the call side, the loss to writers is price minus strike. On the put side, it is strike minus price. Each is multiplied by the open interest at that strike, and the strike with the lowest total is called Max Pain. In this snapshot that is 55,000.

What is the ATM strike?

ATM (At The Money) is the strike closest to the current price of the underlying. Bank Nifty is at 54,951.30 and the nearest strike is 55,000.

How often is this page updated?

The snapshot on this page is updated every trading session. The time shown above states the moment these figures belong to — open interest keeps changing through the session.
